The star of silent movie comedies was accused of
killing actress Virginia Rappe on September 9, 1921 during a
violent sex attack by allegedly rupturing her bladder. The funnyman went
through three trials over the death that happened during his Labor Day
weekend party but was never convicted. His exoneration came too late as the scandal ruin his career. He died a
broken man at the age of 46 in 1933. His death remains a
Hollywood mystery.

The comedian got into a heap of legal
trouble when actress Joan Barry announced she was pregnant with his child in 1943 and aired out their affair. In
1944, Chaplin was accused with allegedly violating the Mann Act, which
prohibited the transportation of women across state lines for sexual
purposes which he was found not guilty for. He then faced a paternity
trial for Barry’s baby and was declared the father then ordered
to pay child support. After all of this he married his fourth wife, Oona O’Neill, 18.
Chaplin finally settled down, staying with O’Neill until he died in
1977.
